NOTE: The Cleveland LEGION is no longer running as a campaign. My wife and I are now running the Atlanta Heroez, set in the same universe. The text below is unaltered from it's original format, and will remain so. The LEGION started as a local RPG I ran several years ago. There was actually two different groups. In any event I used Marvel Super Heroes Advanced Rules as the RPG system for it. In response for your next question, LEGION does not stand for anything. It is the name the second group wanted for their team. <G> After a year or so, the second group disbanded and I could not rebuild a local group. I recently discovered WebRPG, an excellent medium for role-playing when you cannot find a local game. Around Thanksgiving in 1999, I started actively seeking players for the game. As of right now, the campaign has been running since then. The campaign itself is set a year after the last group disbanded (1992). We play in WebRPG on Saturday nights from 8PM EST until around midnight. The LEGION is based in Cleveland, Ohio of an amalgam kinda world. This amalgam world was a combo of all the various comics world. There was nothing really extraordinary about the timeline. The Crisis on Infinite Earths still happened. The Secret Wars still happened. All the big stuff still happened. After the CRISIS, all the various worlds/universes merged. The mutant hysteria became replaced by alien hysteria. Actually the paranoia was directed more towards anyone that looked non-human. The US Government, and every other country soon had its own hero teams to combat further alien invasions. Course these groups were also used for other reasons. In the late 80's/early 90's, the tension between these governmental factions came to a head. In what would come to be known as the Gov Wars, several directives were laid down by the United Nations. Each country could have one hero group, no more, which it would support. The UN would support one planetary group. All other groups had to be disbanded, or merged with others. It would fall upon each government to limit their supported hero teams, while the UN team would have ultimate power over all of them. Unfortunately, the UN had two groups it was supporting at the time, SHIELD and Global Guardians, and a third group, the Justice League who was setting itself up to be the planetary team. The US Government had several groups: Checkmate, Suicide Squad, Avengers, Freedom Force, among others. When the Gov Wars ended, the Justice League was the UN-supported team, with branch offices in NYC, LA, Paris, and Moscow. and smaller offices in all governmental capitols. The Freedom Force remained.as the only US-sponsored group, though they did not shut down the Suicide Squad completely. SHIELD was completely disbanded, due to the corruption within its hierarchy. Members of the Global Guardians split up, with most of them returning to monitor their home nations, however a few did join the Justice League. Checkmate was disbanded after its main congressional supporter was killed during the Gov Wars. The members of the West Coast Avengers who stayed became members of the Justice League LA team. The East Coast Avengers team who stayed became part of the Justice League NYC team. Collectively they became the Justice League America, or JLA for short. It was felt that since the bulk of paranormals were in the US, having two offices there was necessary. The Freedom Force remained, though the focus shifted from mutants to all things paranormal.
