SUMMARY:

Riddick, years after the events in Pitch Black, is trying to hide from those who hunt him. However, people from his past come to realize that he is their only chance for survival against an army of interstellar invaders. Can Riddick stop them without getting himself, and the few he cares about, killed?

My Opinion:

I first saw Pitch Black(which I will also review eventually) a couple years ago, and loved its style and the characters. I also am an admitted big fan of Vin Diesel, so when I heard there was to be a sequel to the movie, I was thrilled. I was doubly thrilled when I found out that Vin himself had a big hand in helping to create the "world" that Riddick and the others inhabit. I saw CoR twice in the theater. It was different from Pitch Black, but it was just as good in its own way. I was pleased with the continuity in the story, with their telling of what has happened to the characters in the time that has elapsed since the end of the first movie and the events in Dark Fury(the animated link between PB and CoR). Riddick as a character keeps developing and growing, realising he has humanity and compassion in him. He is the quintessential dark hero, haunted by the shadows of his past and trying to go past them, and grow.

EXTRAS:

Over 5 minutes of deleted scenes

Riddick's worlds: You use your remote to control what you see. It gives more in depth explanations for words and concepts found within the universe Riddick lives in.

Toomb's chase log: This is like reading a journal left by Toombs, the Merc going after Riddick at the beginning of the movie.

Overall view of the DVD:

This DVD was excellent. The extras fit with the movie well, and all of it flowed well. The movie itself was very good, and the extras that were included only served to enhance it. It is well worth viewing, even if you have not seen Pitch Black, as there is not a lot that would lose someone who hasn't seen it.
