 MusiKai's Story
It was a Friday night, and Arania, Musikai and Meow were curled up on
the couch watching movies. It was around midnight when the movie ended, and Meow wandered
off, bored. Arania watched her leave and turned to MusiKai, kissing him lightly on the
check. He looked at her and smiled. She looked thoughtful for a minute, then spoke up.
"MusiKai, since we've been together, you have not told me of your past. How you came
to be here, and what happened before we met." She held his eyes as she spoke, hand
holding his. "You are right, I haven't spoken or thought of it since I first saw you.
But you deserve to know everything about me." He looked into her eyes, and smiled a
little at her. "Well, you know of course, how clones are created...."
I was awakened, taken out of the vat, and cleaned as are all of us. I was taken to a small
room and left there, for how long I do not know. One of my brothers came to get me and
take me to be trained. I was programmed with what I guess would be called meekness where
our creator and bosses were concerned, an experiment to see if it would affect our
efficiency and prevent us from leaving. I was trained to fight, and to kill. I learned I
was to serve as a private messenger for my "master" (at this he paused, face
looking distant as though struggling to remember something, but it evaded his grasp and he
continued) the one to carry all his most secret and important messages. I was trained also
in how to kill efficiently, and quickly. Some of his messages were to be ones of death to
the recipient. I was taught how to use poisons, to use my brace efficiently, and other
manners to kill the living. I do not know how long my training lasted, but I learned
quickly and well. I had no name, and was only referred to as the messenger. Perhaps he
thought if I had no sense of myself, then that would give me even less reason to leave.
The day finally came when I was tested, and was sent to one of his enemies, bearing what
was to be death. I did not know the person's name, and was expected, but they did not
expect what I bore for them. I was instructed to quickly destroy his servants and workers,
and used my brace to great effect. However the main target was to be given a slow working
poison, and I was to remain and watch him as he died, to ensure he suffered as my master
wanted him to. I did as I was told, but also became aware of what my master was. I
returned successful, and was rewarded by being allowed to exist longer. And so it went, I
was mainly sent with important missives for his agents, Kai and non-Kai alike. But
occasionally I was sent as an assassin, and I grew to hate him for it. I obeyed him, but
only because I wished to continue existing, hoping to escape one day, to be free. Somehow,
I managed to gain enough trust that I was allowed to have access to money for paying
various agents what they needed for their missions. I hid some of it away every time, and
since he never told the agent what they would be getting, it was never suspected.
One day I was called for, I was being sent to kill someone, but not anyone who had harmed
him. It was another test, I was being sent to kill an innocent, to kill.(again he grasped
at some distant memory, it eluded him, and he continued, not even realizing her had not
finished his sentence) I could not do it, however I led him to believe I would. I returned
to my room to gather the things I would need, and I took all the money I had gathered, and
as much protoblood as I could carry. I left acting as though I would be back in a matter
of days.
I came to Kaitown. I got an apartment for myself, and a job as a messenger, as that was
all I knew. During the day I worked, not allowing myself to think of what was behind me,
or hope for the future. It was the nights that haunted me. My apartment was barren except
for a chair to sit in, and since I did not need to eat, I had plenty of money. I started
gathering books, and a stereo. Eventually I had hundreds of musical recordings, and as
many instruments as I could find. I filled my nights with the music to keep away the
memories of what I had done. And so my existence went, delivering messages during the day,
listening to and creating music at night. I do not recall exactly when, but somewhere in
that time I started referring to myself by the name you know me as now, for my love of
music. Then came Christmas time. As I was delivering one day I found the notice for the
Christmas concert, and I felt I had to be there. I Was sitting in the back. (his eyes grow
distant as he remembers this) when I saw a group of women sitting in the front watching
the Kais perform. My eyes were drawn to only one though, and it seemed I could hear the
laughter over the music. Of course you know now the woman was you.
He looked down at Arania as he finished. "And the rest as they say is history."
She smiled at him, and wrapped her arms around his neck. She kissed him deeply,
passionately.
"I am glad you told me. It changes nothing of how I feel for you," seeing his
unspoken concern in his eyes, "I know you were forced to do the things you did, it
was not of your choice. You are free now, and no longer have to worry about it."
He smiled, relieved. He ran his fingers through her hair and swept her up into his arms,
carrying her into the bedroom, where they made love to each other and reached the peak of
ecstasy until dawn, when she fell asleep in his strong caring arms.
