BulletBulletBabs Goes to TownBulletBullet

Babs loved having the warm weather back. She was out in the yard munching on the fresh sprouting green leaves that her uniqueness allowed her to reach. The light green ones tasted best to her, and she was having a blast picking them. She munched on a branchfull, skipping around the yard.

“Babs?” She heard Redemption call her from the porch. “Want to come into town with me, I have to take Lady Arania some catalogs that came in the mail for her today. She needs to see if they have the furniture she wants.”

“Mmmmph…..Yeah, I’d love to go.” Babs grinned and bounced to the car, getting in the passenger side just before he joined her. The drive into town was uneventful, the music Babs chose, Britney Spears, blared on the speakers.

Redemption stopped at the park to let Babs out, as she wanted to walk the short distance to the shop. He watched her wistfully as she bounced away, his eyes following her movements before he turned back to the road and headed off.

Poor Babs. You see, in the Kaitown park that day, a beautiful spring day, was a celebration for the local children. They dressed in pretty pastel dresses and suits, each child clutching a basket to their chest, eyes wide with joy. Some had smears of chocolate on their cheeks, spots missed by the mothers as they squirmed away from the face washing. They followed in staggered lines, chattering with each other as they were led to the place of celebration. Each hoped to find the eggs hidden there. There was one little pair of twins who hoped to catch the source of the eggs, the Easter Bunny.

Babs skipped along the little path, pausing now and then to graze on a bright fresh green bush as she went, her ears standing up and listening, she caught tatters of giggles and joyful voices. She grinned, and started off in the direction of the voices, drawn by their happy chatter, and her own perilously curious nature.

The twins, Jack and Jill Sprout, were digging into a thick holly bush when they saw it. A spot of white, a fluffy ball of cotton.

“Sis, wook.” Jack pointed it out to his sister. “It’s a fluffy tail.” He was careful to whisper, so he wouldn’t frighten it off.

“Tink it da bunny?” She whispered back. She reached out one little hand, and wrapping it around the ball of white, pulled.

“YEEEEEEEOUCH!!!!!!!!!!” Babs hollered, jumping nearly her height straight up into the air. She whirled around, looking for what pulled on her little tail, one hand clasped over her rear end protectively.

The giggles of the children in the bush grew louder, more voices joining the first, and they burst through, sending leaves scattering. “GET THE EASTER BUNNY!!!” They shrieked in excited voices.

Babs’s eyes grew to the size of dinner plates as she saw the crowd of twenty children all rushing for her, their baskets flying through the air as they threw them aside, their chubby little hands reaching out and grasping for her. Their chocolatey faces grinned up at her.

She tried to back away from their sticky grasping hands, one hand still holding her sore tail.

“Get the bunny!” The children chanted, and she turned, bolting. Her feet pounding the earth as she tried to run.

RedemptionKai turned the corner, humming along with the song that played on the radio. He had not taken as long to drop off the catalogues to Arania as he thought he would be, and he was heading back to the park to meet Babs. He was feeling good, the weather was as lifting to his mood as it was to most of the people in town.

He frowned slightly as he stopped at the light, looking into the park as far as he could, seeing if she was in sight yet. His eyebrow arched as he saw a blur of brown, blue and purple darting from one bush to the next.

As he pulled up to the park, sliding the car into a parking spot, the door flew open and Babs jumped in.

“Home!” She managed to get out, out of breath as she collapsed into the passenger’s seat. He pulled out quickly, worried.

As he started to drive, he looked over at her, expecting to see her hurt badly. But he had to bite back laughter as he saw her condition. Her soft fur was matted, with streaks of chocolate with leaves, jelly beans and suckers stuck to it. Her hair stuck out, leaves and grass tangled in it. Her ears were equally sticky, with one having a haphazard bow tied to the tip.

She spent hours in the bath when they arrived home, and for some odd reason, hid when the children walked downstairs with chocolate bunnies in their hands.
